There are things in the Bible I don’t want my kids to do

One of them is this:

Little Egyptian “gods” History Lesson

Hapi — god of the Nile (river)
Heqet — frog symbol → fertility, birth, life
Geb — god of the earth/soil
Khepri — rebirth → scarab beetle
Hathor — bull symbol → love, motherhood
Sekhmet — healing AND disease
Nut — god of the sky (church of “NUTS”)
Seth — chaos, storms, desert
Ra — sun god, supreme deity
Pharaoh — living god
-Son of Ra
-Divine king
-Heir to the throne

Now let’s go to our text:
Exodus 7:1–5 (KJV)
“And the Lord said unto Moses, See, I have made thee a god to Pharaoh: and Aaron thy brother shall be thy prophet.
2 Thou shalt speak all that I command thee: and Aaron thy brother shall speak unto Pharaoh, that he send the children of Israel out of his land.
3 And I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and multiply my signs and my wonders in the land of Egypt.
4 But Pharaoh shall not hearken unto you, that I may lay my hand upon Egypt, and bring forth mine armies, and my people the children of Israel, out of the land of Egypt by great judgments.
5 And the Egyptians shall know that I am the Lord…”

Let’s walk through the wonders…
—or as the Bible calls them: plagues

Wonders = Plagues
👉 Sometimes the only way we see God
is when we begin to lose our gods

Exodus 7–11 Highlights (Plagues)
1. Nile → Blood
Source of life and fertility
Now: powerless
👉 Hapi dethroned

2. Frogs Everywhere
Symbol of life and blessing
Now: overwhelming, disgusting
👉 Heqet dethroned

3. Gnats / Lice (from dust)
Earth/soil → source
👉 Geb is not in control

4. Flies
Khepri (insect/rebirth symbol)
Now:
Not renewal
Total destruction

5. Livestock Dies
Sacred cows (Hathor / Apis)
Now:
Not gods
Just BBQ

6. Boils
Sekhmet = healing + disease
Now:
Can’t heal
Priests powerless
👉 This god is dethroned
👉 “By His stripes we are healed”

7. Hail
Sky god (Nut)
Now:
Powerless
Cannot control what falls

8. Locusts
Chaos / destruction
Associated with Seth
👉 No control

9. Darkness
Ra → supreme sun god
Now:
No sun
No light
No control
👉 Something controls Ra

10. Death of Firstborn
Pharaoh = living god
Son of Ra
Divine bloodline
Now:
His heir dies
His line ends
👉 Pharaoh is not God
Big Truth
Egypt’s gods were tied to creation
👉 But creation obeys God

Who actually controls creation?
Who or what do you worship?

What are our “gods”?
-Success
-Money
-Image
-Comfort
-Control
👉 What sits on the throne of your life?

THE UMBRELLA
Raining outside…
What do you realize?
👉 You forgot your umbrella
The Umbrella = Covering
-Shelter
-Protection
-Distinction
-During the Plagues

Exodus 8:22
“I will set apart the land of Goshen…”
→ No flies

Exodus 9:26
“Only in Goshen… no hail”

Exodus 11:7
“Not even a dog will bark…”

→ God makes a distinction

Big Idea
👉 There was a covering
👉 There was a difference

Exodus 12
Passover

Lamb → Jesus
Blood → Covering
House → Temple

👉 Death passes over

What is this about?
For them… and for us

It’s About:
-Awareness
-Deconstruction
-Separation from false gods
-Revelation of the one true God
