Footsteps of Paul Greece/Turkey
Join us on an inspiring 14-day tour titled “Footsteps of Paul + Seven Churches of Revelation”, from January 12-25, 2027, with Jerusalem Tours International. We’ll travel through historic Greece and Turkey, tracing the missionary journeys of the Apostle Paul the Apostle and visiting the famed Seven Churches mentioned in Book of Revelation. Along the way, we'll witness ancient ruins, vibrant culture, and meaningful sacred sites that bring Scripture and history to life. Hosted by Pastor Johnny Scott and Jennifer Scott, the trip is designed to deepen faith, build fellowship, and enrich spiritual understanding. Itinerary
Day 1 Depart USA
Depart for your transatlantic flight to Greece. Enjoy hot dinner and entertainment aboard the airplane.
Day 2 Arrival Thessaloniki
Arrive where you will be met by our representative and transferred to your hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 3 Philippi and Kavala
After breakfast at the hotel we begin our full day excursion. In the morning travel east by coach, pass Apollonia to arrive at Amphipolis and visit part of the
extensive site, including the North Wall. See both Beta and Gamma gates, and the remains of Strymon Bridge. View the 4th century B.C. Lion Statue that was
prominent on the ancient Egnatian Way that St. Paul would have travelled. Afterwards we continue to the City of Kavala and stop nearby the harbour of Kavala
(biblical Neapolis), St. Paul’s gateway to Europe - a busy port with striking castle and an imposing aqueduct built by Suleyman the Magnificent. See the Greek
Orthodox seaside church (Agia Sofia) that marks Paul’s landing spot. Lunch is on your own for the whole trip and you will be taken to an area with the best options.
In the afternoon our next stop will be Philippi, which had a spacious forum, Agora and a theatre, which was also a gladiator arena. Nearby there is a crypt, which has been honoured since the fifth
century as the place of St. Paul’s first imprisonment, where he and Silas sang hymns and an earthquake set them free. Philippi is the place where the Apostle Paul arrived on the mainland of
Europe in response to the vision of a Macedonian that he saw at Troas. Here in Philippi is the first place where St. Paul preached the Gospel in Europe. Visit Lydia Springs, the Baptismal Site.
Outside the ancient city, the River Gangites still flows through quiet countryside, where St. Paul addressed his first European congregations and the businesswoman, Lydia - a “seller of purple,”
who was the first to be baptized. There is a fine chapel commemorating this event. Dinner and overnight Thessaloniki.
Day 4 Thessaloniki and Meteora
In the morning see the landmark of the city: the White Tower, the Walls of the Byzantine Acropolis, the Roman Arch of Galerius and the Rotonda. Continue to Veria,
where you visit the Bema of the apostle Paul. We also visit King Phillip's (Alexander's father) tomb in Vergina, one of the most outstanding finds in all of Greece.
Continue to visit one of the amazing Byzantine monasteries of Meteora, perched on top of gigantic rock pinnacles. In Kalambaka Dinner and overnight at your hotel
the Grand Meteorea.
Day 5 Kalambaka and Delphi
Early morning and after breakfast, continue your trip to Southern Greece with the drive from Meteorea to scenic Delphi, one of the most beautiful places on the
face of the earth, which in the past was believed to be the “navel” (omphalos) of the world. Walk on the Sacred Way to see the Athenian Treasury, the Temple of
Apollo, where the oracle delivered her ambiguous prophecies and the Theater. Also, visit the Museum with its splendid collection of ancient works of art, including
the Sphinx of the Naxians, the Silver Bull, the Column of the Dancers, the “Omphalos” and the pride of the museum -the 5th c. B.C. bronze “Charioteer”.
Continue to Athens for dinner and overnight.
Day 6 Ancient Corinth, Mars Hill, Athens city tour
In the morning, admire the architectural miracles of ancient Athens, as you follow your guide to the world renown Acropolis, to see the Propylea, the Erectheum and the Parthenon. Visit Mars
Hill, where Paul delivered his ingenious speech on the “Unknown God”. View the Agora, the ancient center of the economic and public life of the city, where Paul preached to the skeptical
Athenians. During the bus tour, you see Constitution Square with the House of Parliament and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the Temple of Zeus, the Old Olympic Stadium and the
Neoclassical Buildings of Athens. Afterwards you will travel to Ancient Corinth. This is the once glorious city near the Isthmus, where Paul met Aquilla and Priscilla and spent a year and a half
working and preaching the Gospel. You visit the Archaeological Museum, the Forum, the Temples and the famous Bema, where Paul stood before Gallio after being accused by the Jews of
Corinth. If time allows drive to Cenchreae, the little harbor from where Paul sailed back to Asia, thus ending his second missionary journey. 5pm flight to Izmir Turkey and overnight.
Day 7 Pergamum, Thyatira,Izmir (Smyrna)
Breakfast at the hotel. Depart for ancient Smyrna. Then, we will stop by to explore Pergamum. Visit the Acropolis with the steepest theater of the ancient world and the Temple of Trajan. Then
visit the Red Basilica, which was an Egyptian Temple, later converted to a church. It is also considered as one of the Seven Churches of the Revelation. Continue to Akhisar to visit the remains of
the Thyatira Church. At ancient time, the city was one of the most important settlements of the Lydian state and the Kingdom of Pergamon. Continue back to Smyrna to visit the St Polycarp
Church. Dinner and overnight in Izmir.
Day 8 Sardis, Alasehir (Philadelphia), Pamukkale
Breakfast at the hotel. Depart for Sardis, capital of the ancient Lydia, where the first coin of the world was invented. See the remains of the early
church, The Greek Temple of Artemis at Sardis and visit Sardis synagogue. Continue to Alasehir to see the Philadelphia Church which is dedicated to St. John,
another one of the Seven Churches of the Revelation. Drive to visit Denizli and on to Pamukkale, noted as ancient spa, where pure white travertine’s forms frozen
waterfalls. Pamukkale, meaning "cotton castle" in Turkish, is a natural site of Denizli in southwestern Turkey. The area is famous for a carbonated minerals left by the flowing water. Dinner
and overnight Pamukkale.
Day 9 Colossae, Laodicea, Kusadasi (Ephesus)
Breakfast at the hotel. Visit the Colossae where is one of the 6 largest cities of Phrygia. Later on, visit the newly excavated Laodicea. It was an ancient city built on the river Lycus, it was located
in the Hellenistic regions of Caria and Lydia. It contains one of the Seven Churches of Asia mentioned in the Book of Revelation. Continue to Kusadasi for dinner and overnight.
Day 10 Kusadasi (Ephesus)
Breakfast at the hotel. Visit the famous ancient city of Ephesus, the Ephesus Archaeological Museum and the Basilica of St. John. The ancient city of Ephesus
takes you on an unforgettable journey through history; considered the home of the Blessed Virgin Mary, reaching back to the Neolithic period and was inhabited in
the greatest period of the Roman Empire. This ancient city was valued for a long time as a harbor town. Based on the excavations, which have uncovered new
sections and artefacts every year, the city continues to surprise its visitors and to maintain its historical value. Many famous classic philosophers, who are still being
studied today, such as Heraclitus, lived in the scientific, artistic and cultural city of Ephesus. The ancient city of Ephesus, and especially its Temple of Artemis,
which is one of the first temples, is recognized as one of the seven wonders of the world. Since 2015 it has been included in the ‘World Heritage Sites List’. Dinner and overnight in Kusadasi.
Day 11 Fly to Turkey
After breakfast drive to Izmir to fly to Istanbul. Dinner and overnight at the hotel in Istanbul.
Day 12 Istanbul
Our first stop after breakfast will be Historical Peninsula. Visit the Topkapi Palace, where is the Ottoman Sultans lived for 400 years. We will visit one of the biggest symbols of Ottoman
Architecture, Blue Mosque which is famous with blue tiles. Then, visit Hagia Sophia Church, which means “the Church of the Holy Wisdom”, is the most important and monumental symbol of the
Byzantine period. Later on, we will see the Cathedral of Holy Spirit. Dinner and overnight in Istanbul.
Day 13 Istanbul – Free day
Free day to explore the city. Optional tours (Golf, Grand Bazar, Haghia Sophia, Bosporus) Dinner and overnight in Istanbul.
Day 14 Saturday – departure transfer, Arrive home
